Molecular mechanisms of neuronal damage caused by pneumococcal infections in the brain

The research aims to develop new therapeutic approaches that interfere with these mechanisms by blocking bacteria neuron interaction, in order to protect neurons from injury caused by bacterial interaction.

The research by the Karolinska Institutet team, under the supervision of Associate Prof. Dr. Federico Lovino, aims to develop new therapeutic approaches that disrupt these mechanisms by blocking the interaction between bacteria and neurons, so that neurons are better protected against damage caused by bacterial infections.
