On Friday 13th January 2023, Anne was suddenly admitted to hospital. After being bedridden for two weeks with sinusitis, it turned out to have spread to her brain. Investigations revealed that Anne had both meningitis and encephalitis. A period full of fear and worry followed. Both in the Intensive Care Unit, during and after the operations, but also during epileptic seizures and the loss of speech and use of her right arm and leg. Fortunately, Anne has now almost fully recovered from this, a MIRACLE! We are very grateful for this. Also because we know that this is not the case for everyone who is affected by meningitis/encephalitis.

Every minute, someone in the world is affected by encephalitis. For meningitis, this figure is even 4 to 5 times higher. A large proportion of these individuals die or are left with permanent sequelae. All sorts of research, varying in scale from small to large, can be conceived that requires funding. A lack of funding appears to be the limiting factor at this moment. The often-heard comment is that encephalitis (and meningitis) is too rare. The ItsME foundation raises money for this cause.
