On Sunday 6 October, we are running the Breda Half Marathon for the ItsME Foundation! Worldwide, five people are affected by encephalitis or meningitis every minute. This means that during our run, over 600 people will contract this devastating condition. As neuro-rehabilitation physiotherapists and occupational therapists at the Amsterdam UMC, we witness the profound impact of this disease on a daily basis.

One of the people who experienced this is Jur Deitmers. During his studies in America on 10 March 2017, he was struck by acute encephalitis. Although he survived, his entire memory was wiped. He no longer remembered who his parents, younger brother, younger sister, and friends were. Actions such as frying an egg or opening a beer had also become alien to him. Jur's inspiring story can be heard in the NPO podcast "The Boy Without Yesterday."

In 2019, Jur established the independent ItsME Foundation. With this running event, we aim to raise awareness and collect as much money as possible for ItsME, to support scientific research into meningitis and encephalitis. You can contribute to this by donating. Our goal is a future without the threat of these serious diseases. What's yours?

"The power of WE is stronger than the power of ME."

As a professional charity, we try to keep costs as low as possible. Therefore, we can use all the help we can get. As Lionel Richie once sang, “Is it me you're looking for?” In other words, if our foundation's purpose aligns with yours, please sign up to volunteer.
