On 28 June 2024, 7-year-old Ingmar Stork passed away suddenly. Ingmar was a cheerful, kind, smart, and funny boy who thoroughly enjoyed life. Two years prior, he had already suffered from meningitis. No one could have foreseen that the unthinkable would happen: Ingmar contracted meningitis again, and this time he did not survive. This has caused great sadness for his family, friends, and the entire school.

Ingmar's story shows how important it is to recognise and treat meningitis in good time. Too often, the diagnosis is missed or made too late, sometimes with fatal consequences. The ItsME Foundation is committed to groundbreaking research into better detection and treatment of encephalitis and meningitis. The foundation also advocates for greater awareness among doctors and for taking parents‘ ’gut feeling' seriously.

Ingmar was a pupil in group 3 of obs Twiske in Amsterdam when he unexpectedly passed away. On Tuesday afternoon, he was still happily running around in school and in the gymnasium. On Wednesday, he had to be rushed to the hospital and we saw him for the last time that Tuesday.

On 1 April 2025, obs Twiske is organising a ‘sponsor skate' in memory of Ingmar, who loved skating. Pupils from Years 3 to 8 will skate as many laps as possible in and around the school on skateboards, inline skates or roller skates in 10 minutes. In the week leading up to the sponsor skate, they will receive a skate clinic during their PE lesson.

Help us make a difference together! Donate and support meningitis research through the ItsME Foundation.
The first target amount was reached within a single day. Amazing, how incredibly cool! We adjusted the amount and have exceeded that too, but we will continue because so much more is needed for research and awareness campaigns! But no amount is incorrect, every euro is gratefully received!
