At Beurs van Berlage, we believe that events can be more than just a moment. As a venue where thousands of people gather annually, we feel a responsibility to give something back to society as well.

This is why we choose one social cause each year that we actively support. An initiative that aligns with our vision of sustainability, connection, and creating lasting impact. Within our sustainability strategy, we call this ‘creating a legacy’: contributing to something that extends beyond the event itself.

In 2026, we will be supporting the ItsME Foundation.

We chose this charity because of our colleague Kaitlyn.

In 2024, Kaitlyn lost 17-year-old Suus, her best friend, to meningitis.

Following a fall in the summer of 2022, she likely contracted a flesh-eating bacterium. The bacterium spread through her bloodstream to her brain, after which she lay in a coma for a week. Despite a long period of recovery and the immense strength with which she fought back, she unexpectedly passed away in her sleep.

Suus's story has touched many colleagues within the Beurs van Berlage.

Since then, Kaitlyn has wanted to raise as much awareness as possible about what meningitis is and that it can happen to anyone. Her message is simple, but powerful: enjoy the little things in life.

When we got in touch with Stichting ItsME, it turned out to be at precisely the right moment. The foundation, which is still relatively young, was precisely looking for ways to gain more attention and visibility. How wonderful that we, as the Beurs van Berlage, can contribute to that.
