CARE FOR ME 2026 – A day of recognition and connection
For and by those affected by meningitis (and encephalitis) and their loved ones

On 24 January, we organised the Care for ME Alliance Day for the fourth time. A day of warmth, recognition and connection for everyone affected by meningitis or encephalitis.

Together with around 120 people — each with their own story — the day felt both grand and intimate. People of all ages who have themselves experienced meningitis or encephalitis and still live with the consequences every day. And their loved ones: partners, parents and children, who support, empathise and sometimes fight with them.

For those who have lost a loved one to meningitis or encephalitis, there was a separate programme: the Day of Connection and Remembering. A safe space to reflect on loss, to remember, and to not have to be alone.

There was room for everything that is. For grief and loss. For recognition and comfort. For strength, hope and connection.

There was laughter and there were tears. Stories were shared, sometimes tentatively, sometimes courageously out loud. In that openness, something essential emerged: people felt seen, heard and less alone.

That is what Care for ME is all about. Being together. Supporting one another. And realising that you don’t have to go through life alone after encephalitis or meningitis.

We will be organising Care for ME again in 2027. On 23 January, we will once again warmly welcome our allies.

Would you like to connect with peers online? ‘WE with ME’ – a safe online space where you can share experiences and find support from people who understand what you’re going through.

Do you also know someone who has been affected by meningitis?

All allies and their loved ones are very welcome at the next edition. Send an email to info@itsme-foundation.com for more information.

There is also a closed Facebook group called ‘WE with ME’. If you sign up, you will be quickly admitted to the group and can get in direct contact with fellow sufferers.
